The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the UK's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his new release People Watching was named the top album of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots had in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and beyond, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with possible closure due to issues stemming from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and fans.

"The notion that money from concerts in large arenas backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

In Pulp received the trophy in 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer Cocker announced that the group would contribute their prize money to the organization the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she divided her prize across several organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the community center that supported their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

And winners that year the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

The Joiners in that area and the other in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by a national body and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
